Freedom of speech
The rights of Canadians to freely hold and express beliefs are being eroded at an alarming speed, leading many to renounce their most deeply held moral convictions and express opinions they disagree with.
We have also seen a series of regulatory attacks on free speech on the internet, where social media companies are pressured to censor speech that isn’t politically correct. This, in conjunction with free expression being curtailed in the workplace, universities and society in general, is leading Canada down a dangerous and authoritarian path.
What some people find politically incorrect, offensive or even hateful cannot serve as the legal basis for discrimination and censorship. Canadians must be able to enjoy maximum freedom of conscience and expression as guaranteed in Section 2 of the Charter.
Elect Conservatives will always stand by members of the public and our political representatives who fight for freedom of conscience and expression to its fullest extent.
