The election on September 20th is a statistical tie, says a new poll that found Canadians feel that Justin Trudeau has led a cynical and angry campaign.
The Postmedia-Leger poll found seven out of ten Canadians agreed that the campaign had been more divisive and confrontational than previous elections.
While 76 per cent of Conservative voters found the election divisive, Liberal voters agreed in similar numbers (74 per cent).
The poll also asked Canadians how they felt about Trudeau and Erin O’Toole, and specifically, how they had handled the race.
“In the book, [JWR] says she is angry at herself for believing at one point that Trudeau ‘was an honest and good person when in truth he would so casually lie to the public and then think he could get away with it.’”
Don’t let Trudeau get away with it.
On Monday, #VoteHimOut. https://t.co/cUxgAjIl2m— Sen. Denise Batters (@denisebatters) September 14, 2021
When asked who appeared angry during the campaign, 37 per cent of Canadians said Trudeau, while only 20 per cent said O’Toole.
35 per cent also said Trudeau appeared to be more dismissive to those he disagreed with compared to 26 per cent who said that about O’Toole. 35 per cent also said Trudeau had run a cynical campaign compared to O’Toole at 30 per cent.
Nationally, Leger has the race in a dead heat with the Conservatives polling at 33 per cent of decided voters and the Liberals at 32. The NDP is at 19 per cent, the People’s Party of Canada at six per cent and the Greens at two per cent.
Trudeau has done nothing but run an incredibly volatile and divisive campaign, especially over the issue of vaccine passports.
The “sunny ways” Prime Minister has used rhetoric of “us vs. them”, calling out unvaccinated Canadians as monsters who will put you and your children at risk.
It’s hardly surprising that the majority of Canadians agree that he is running a cynical and divisive campaign, and the numbers will hopefully reflect negatively against him on Monday.
