The Trudeau Liberals have announced that they will further increase the national debt to throw money at the omicron COVID-19 variant this winter.
Trudeau also warned of spiking cases as the holidays approach and the possibility of further lockdowns.
“If we need to bring back more supports, we will,” he said. “We’ve actually got a bill before the House right now to make sure that there are lockdown supports as people have to face difficult decisions so that there is support for people if municipalities or regions have to bring in more lockdowns, which nobody wants, but might happen.”
Given that cases are on the rise across Canada and the world, there is no doubt that more pandemic lockdowns are on the way. However, with Canada’s inflation rate at 4.7% and the natial debt surpassing 1 trillion dollars, Canadians must be scratching their heads as to how much more spending our economy can cope with.
If we, as a nation, keep borrowing and printing money to cope with each new variant of COVID-19 that arises, we will find ourselves in an economic crisis like never before. There are far better options available to tackle new variants while keeping our economy afloat, but as always, the Trudeau Liberals have no interest in doing what is fiscally right – only what appeals to headlines and those who favour further economic restrictions.
