Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says the people living in Ottawa deserve to get their lives back, as the freedom convoy continues to occupy the city’s streets.
“This is protesting people going about their daily lives, harassing people who dare wear masks or follow public health rules. Expressing hateful approaches, showing hateful symbols of genocide, of racism. These are things that are absolutely unacceptable…and the people of Ottawa deserve to have their lives back, deserve to have their neighbourhoods back,” Trudeau said.
When pressed on whether he planned to negotiate with the protesters, Trudeau wouldn’t provide a definitive answer.
“The commitment that we made as a government, if we got re-elected, is we would stand by science,” he added. “We would continue to do what it takes to protect people through this pandemic.”
The freedom convoy has been present in Ottawa for the past few days, vowing that they will not move their vehicles until all COVID-19 mandates are lifted.
The convoy has already contributed to the governments of Alberta and Manitoba stating that they will lift restrictions in the coming weeks, and the government of Quebec backing away from its plan to increase taxes on the unvaccinated. Similar protests across Europe – which were inspired by the Canadian truckers – have led the governments of the UK, Sweden and the Netherlands to lift similar restrictions.
The whole world is watching, and we at Elect Conservatives have one simple message for the brave men and women in Ottawa who are protesting: keep on trucking, patriots. We are proud of you all.
